Today's demo... singers + mcs... come get it!

so i was messing around in the studio today for an hour or two and came up with a little vibe that i'm digging... so, for the fun of it - call it a social experiment ? - and who knows, maybe more - in between twitter tweets, i thought i'd unleash it on the web. singers, mcs... feel free to grab the beat and bring your uniqueness to it. once you're done, drop your version back in the dropbox on this blog page... have fun!

use the soundcloud widget below to listen/download/share... or grab it direct: http://www.sendspace.com/file/wdpnnf

if you want to get clever on the arrangement here's two stems - one with a bounce of the drums + bass and the other with all the keys... http://www.sendspace.com/file/twtgxq

... a few people have asked me 'what's it for' etc... i say, 'why not!!'. at this stage it's for fun. it's not about ego - ie, i'm hoping all sorts of levels of people have a go. if someone smacks it up to a point that i fall in love with what they've done, then we'll talk about taking it further. there's no sense in being so precious about your craft to not do it tho - nothing ventured, nothing gained. and if nothing comes of your creativity through me, then you have written a vocal that you can get someone else to make a beat for :) i'd love to see a dope unexpected song come out of this, and that aside, it's great to just connect with some people who maybe don't get the opportunity to mash it on a beat like this... have fun with it :)

Featured guests for the next MdCL LP... want to put your 2 cents in ?

so a few days ago i put a status update on facebook, myspace and twitter:

" so i'm thinking about the feat guest list for my next full length album... anyone want to put their 2 cents in ? ;) "

in my mind, the guest list is pretty much locked already, both definites and my wish list, but it's interesting to open it up to you all out there - just never know when a certain idea might come from someone. some of the answers are just plain funny - respect to the first guy who came with "chas and dave". LOL. some of the suggestions are people with whom collabs are already in place or who might not be appropriate for a spot on the new LP but with whom some other one off of full concept collabs could happen.... and there's a few new names to me that have been interesting to check out (peep uk artist shax on myspace - fresh vibe)

so... this is what people have said so far... unedited. feel free to add your own suggestions :)

Drum roll please..... THE WINNERS

It's time people! Almost a year late... it's amazing how time flies and for keeping everyone waiting we're definitely sorry. Hopefully you'll agree it's all worth the wait - we had so many great entries from all corners of the world, and it's been a tough process choosing the winners. Thanks to Afronaught (coopr8/Bugz in the Attic), Phil Asher (Phlash & Friends/restless soul) and Benji B (Deviation/1xtra) for joining us in the judging process.

Enough with the waiting tho... with five judges we've all ended with some different winners and runners up, and compiling the votes to give us the end result, we're happy to announce The Politik Remixed winners (click their names or pics above for myspace links):

1st= Mistaken (Slang remix featuring Dave Ghetto) - Philadelphia, USA
1st= She's Gone (Brendon remix) - London, UK
2nd= Feel It (Altered Natives remix) - London, UK
2nd= Black Sun (TRZ remix) - Sao Paulo, Brasil
3rd Mistaken (Scrimshire remix) - London, UK

Runners up:

The Essence (Brendon remix) - London, UK
Turn the Light (Monsieur Greg remix) - Paris, France
Money (Soulparlor remix) - Mainz, Germany

Individual judges' other favorites/remixes we felt should get a special mention:

Feel It (Qsoncs remix)
The Essence (Monsieur Greg remix)
How Did They Know (Alegory remix)
Moonlight (Broken Beatnik remix)
Mistaken feat Bahamadia (UKey remix) - great effort flipping Mistaken into a broken dancefloor soul joint and mashing up the Bahamadia rap from Feel It into the same track

We know some people are going to feel like "but what was wrong with my remix ? Everyone I played it to loves it!"... there were almost 300 remixes submitted, about half of those were pretty good, and there's plenty of remixes which had nothing wrong with them at all - these were just the ones that resonated with the judges the most/in the right way. If you really dig your remix and it wasn't selected, feel free to put it on your myspace/website/blogsite, or another idea, if you didn't use any of our music parts is to take the vocals off and record your own original vocal/vocalist to the backing track and voila... brand new original joint. It'd be nice if everyone could be a winner in this, but it's not the case.

We're organising release plans now for the Remix album - winning remixers (and runners up!), keep an eye on your inbox. If your email address has changed since you entered the contest, please contact us directly office(at)mashibeats.com. Look forward to the remix album out in the summer along with some very special exclusives - a brand new original studio joint 'Dreams', and bonus remixes from Zed Bias under both Zed Bias and Maddslinky guises, C Swing Black Einstein and bonus remix for Japan from DJ Mitsu the Beats.

We have an artwork winner as well - the quality on that front was not as high overall as the remixes, and the winner is a clear winner for sure. we'll be in contact with the designer soon and you'll see the artwork on the final release!

Thanks again to everyone who entered and spent time crafting and reinterpreting our music. Keep the good music coming :)

No Fusion Generation (MdCL remix feat Ovasoul7) - Till Bronner

this is back from 2000. i'd just release the six degrees album on universal uk and they asked me to do a remix for one of their artists - german trumpeter till bronner. the album he'd made was an instrumental jazz album heavily influenced by voodoo, which has just dropped and was pretty much influencing everyone at the time in one way or another. i really wanted to add a vocal element to the track on the remix and the budget was pretty good, so i decided to fly to philadelphia and record ovasoul7 on the cut. it was my first time in philly, and it really was a great visit. we spent a couple of days at anthony tidd's studio writing and recording (as well as this remix, we also recorded an ovasoul7 original which to this day is unreleased but bound to see light of day one day!), and i got to check a little bit of the illadelph vibe - went to black lily one night to check the jam and james poyser and ?uestlove were there holding it down in the house band, alicia keys got up and jammed, i think the jazzyfatnastee girls were up on stage too. it was a good vibe for sure. that trip was the first time i met lady alma, rich medina and a few other guys who are now friends. thanks to the remix, the opportunity manifested to check out a place i'd always wanted to go.

'No Fusion Generation' (MdCL remix feat Ovasoul7) - Til Bronner

trumpet - Till Bronner
vocals - Ovasoul7
all other instruments - MdCL

released on Melodius Beats vol.1 (Antipodean Records)

btw... Mel Beats vol.2 soon come!

Lady Alma - Running for Nothing - club mixes Out Now...

http://www.traxsource.com/index.php?act=show&fc=tpage&cr=titles&cv=30297

Top 10 Traxsource jam for Terry Hunter, DJ Spen & Anthony Nicholson

The original mid tempo broken soul version dropped on the Lady Alma digital only EP The Pressure, now the club mixes are about to drop on digital and 12" vinyl courtesy of Mad Mat's lable Raw Fusion. One of our favorite vocalists anywhere and often featured with the likes of 4Hero, Sylk130 and MdCL, the new release features the A-side soulful house club mix by Universal Sun (MdCL and NZ's Chris Cox) and the B-side deep soulful tech mix from Simbad. It's a heavyweight single putting Lady Alma back in the spotlight... was she ever out of it ?! Out at all digital stores now - traxsource link above, and vinyl out next week :)
