so i'd just come back from the europe tour and fell straight into a fantastic classic LA week... started off last sunday spinning at the eclectech pool party at the custom hotel. that day was a bit overcast and grey (can anyone say 'june gloom'?), but we had a great time anyway. it was also the first time i'd brought a keyboard out to a DJ set - eduardo asked me to play live, which we couldnt pull together for that party, so i thought i could at least take a board. i think this is the new MdCL DJing look... decks + korg radias. nuff fun! :) sunday, pino palladino was in town working with john mayer so we had a catch up hang - next time he's back we'll hit studio hopefully.

a couple of days later and tuesday night i headed to a secret location in downtown LA for a private jam session which no one knew who else was going to be in attendance, or even exactly where it was! lol. love a bit of that mysterious vibe. i took a partial rig down - juno 6, radias, mpc3000 and a few effects/toys. shafiq from sa-ra on his juno + effects and toys... computer jay from the pharcyde band on his rhodes and 3 moogs... miguel atwood-ferguson on his violin... zap mama and LA fam on vocals... todd simon on trumpet... and more. and MORE.
it was a crazy vibe. we jammed til 4 in the morning and there were some magic moments. it's always fun to explore and share music with new people. it was the first time i'd played with all of the people there and there's definitely some new friendships and future music to come from those meetings. the actual jam itself was pulled together by dru from art don't sleep - NUFF respect - and documented on video and in pics and audio. amongst other vibes, was a sick as can be 25 minute version of a love supreme (audio below - feel free to repost and share). we really had fun that night and i look forward to more of that vibe for sure.

wednesday i chilled in the sun (june gloom let up for a day) and then hit studio a lil working on a tune i'm doing with shea soul called 'show u how'. really digging the way this one's shaping up and should have it ready to unveil for the summer. housey 80s summer bounce :))
late friday, dam funk hit me up with a track from his upcoming full length album and asked me to guest some keys on it. dam's one of the freshest cats i've heard in a while and i love his vibe - that whole deep 80s boogie and funk thing but he's reinterpreted it his own way in a futuristic space funk way. loving that vibe. so i laced up his joint with some mashi keys and sent it back to him before heading out to air conditioned in santa monica to DJ for the wax on party. dam hit me back on the text on my way there and yeahhh... we got it locked. the tune's on POINT :)

the wax on party was good fun - AC santa monica is a small spot, had a nice crew there and got to share some tunes i really dig. DJ'd for a couple of hours, complete with korg radias - like i said, it's part of the DJ rig now! and enjoyed a good hang with friends after.
all in all, a dope week here in LA. thank you LA and LA fam... much more to come, i know ;)
