thanks to everyone who came out sunday to the HVW8 gallery for their barbecue/podcast/hang/Super Session! ty from HVW8 invited me down to play and what started off as "for sure, i'll come down and spin a few tunes" morphed into a fully fledged improv jam a la freesoul sessions UK style.... i had the live rig - minus rhodes or clav (a variation on the usual setup that i'm getting quite into now... necessity being invention's mama and all that), chris bailey joined me on live drums, and nia andrews and laurnea stepped up on mic. 
it was the first time chris and i had played together in ages - we met through a jam band/studio project in london which i also met pino palladino through - a whole lot of us who had never met before ended up forming some great friendships and musical bonds. both pino and chris played on my tide's arising album which i recorded not long after we'd all met. chris is on playing live drums on the intro joint 'Masina's World' and additional drums on a few other cuts. he's one sick sick sickkk drummer, living in LA now and on the road with miss spears. so with a few days off from tour, i invited him down to join the vibe and come with some illizms on the kit. nuff said!
nia i met at the art don't sleep jam the previous week; and laurnea is a legend on the mic i'd met a few years back at a show in atlanta. it was a pleasure to have both of them up on mic and killing it proper with some off the top of the dome freestyling :) i'm looking forward to more with both of them. word on more live hits in LA soon as it's ON....
sometimes it's those really casual setups which really bring some different and heavy vibe to the moment - the HVW8 space is a small art gallery and not a fully rigged music venue, the barbecue was outside on the street, there was a rock band playing two shops up the road, we had a makeshift setup, nothing flash, but for sure, the vibe was on point from the get-go and it was great to see LA fam come out for a sunny sunday hang, some food and some beats.

apart from the HVW8 session, i managed to hit studio a little to lay some keys down for booty brown from the pharcyde's solo project. it's on a soulful house vibe - i think people are going to be digging his direction on this album. also did an interview with sofisticati.com which should be online in a few days... check out their site :)
the june gloom is over and summer's kicking off... loving it!
